Land Acknowledgement
Whistler’s Daughter resides on the ancestral, traditional, and contemporary lands of the Three Fires Confederacy (Nswi-Shkodewin) of the Anishinaabe, which includes the Ojibwe, Odawa, and Bodéwadmi peoples. This land, encompassing southeast Michigan and beyond, was forcibly ceded through the 1807 Treaty of Detroit. We honor the enduring presence, sovereignty, and cultural heritage of these Native Nations, recognizing their vital roles—past, present, and future—in shaping this region, the state, and the nation.
We acknowledge the ongoing impacts of settler colonialism, forced removal, and systemic oppression faced by Indigenous peoples and other marginalized communities, including Black, immigrant, and refugee populations. Whistler’s Daughter is committed to uplifting these voices, preserving cultural traditions, and fostering a deeper understanding of the histories that continue to shape our society. Our work is grounded in respect, dignity, and a shared responsibility to steward the land and support justice for all.
